THE SLATE MUSEUM This museum gives the history of those men who, from generation to generation, lived and toiled to mine slate from under the ground. You will see the stages of mining around a winding shaft and a room with geological samples. There is also an extensive collection of tools. The guided tour ends in a demonstration of slate splitting.

The Ark refuge (Le refuge de l'arche)

In the Southem Mayenne region 24 villages have been awarded the status of "villes ou villages fleuris”,
(towns/villages noted for their floral displays). Some examples are:
COUDRAY: where the village centre and the surrounding area have been renovated, with countryside hedges reintroduced..
Simplé: elaborate floral displayscreated by volunteers, neat boxwood hedges and the original park for newly married men in which new trees are planted each year by the grooms for that year.
Laigné: a colourful town hall, a landscaped motorcross course, the bridge at Ampoigné, the public garden with its hardy perennials are some of the many features which make this pretty floral village an ideal place to break your journey, particularly in halt nicely flowered particularly in autumn when nthe town is renowned for its chrysanthemums ….
Craon: In the park of the 18th century chateau, you will find French style gardens from the classical period and winding walkways in the style of the English garden which was so greatly appreciated by the romantics. Spread over 40 hectares, there are also greenhouses, an ancient ice house and an orange grove.
Chateau-Gontier: Town of 100,000 flowers. Visit its themed gardens and admire its(mosaicculture) and its roundabouts covered in flowers. The refined harmonious and creative style of the floral displays is in perfect harmony with the gentle ambiance created by the river which flows
